Mpwapwa is one of the districts in Dodoma region where mineral deposits of various types have been spotted. Copper, gemstone, ruby, gypsum and moonstone are some of the minerals identified. Over the period of 2007 to 2011 small scale mining activities were actively undertaken. Poor mining tools, lack of technology and working capital inhibited development of this sector. Therefore, for economic growth of the district and its people initiatives should be taken to promote this sector.
